First Baptist Church Hagerstown had a vision to reach as many people in the community as possible with the Good News of Jesus Christ. In an effort to do just that, the church decided that it needed to expand the area that it was reaching and opened a community center in a warehouse on the west end of town. This was to be a safe place where the children could participate in a church-sponsored after-school program. The program continued to grow and soon a new building was erected. More and more people were being drawn to the community center. It was clear that there was a need for a church.
In 1978, West End Baptist Chapel was formed. And, so it stands that our mission today is the same as it was when the church first began:
West End Baptist Chapel exists to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and teach our members how to become committed followers of Christ. As we do this, we will become the church God intended us to be.
